The cultural heart of Camogli<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Inaugurated on September 30, 1876, the Sociale di Camogli is an example of an Italian-style theater with a horseshoe-shaped floor plan, four tiers of boxes, and a gallery. It was designed by architect Salvatore Bruno, who also designed the Teatro Modena in Sampierdarena in 1857. <\/p>

The Teatro di Camogli was established through the initiative of 60 local middle-class families who had directly or indirectly made their fortunes at sea. At the time, Camogli was one of the major shipping powers, famously known as \u201cthe city of a thousand white sailing ships.\u201d<\/p>

In the 1930s, the original wooden structure required radical structural upgrades for safety. This provided an opportunity to create proscenium boxes, an orchestra pit, and a gallery around the stalls to increase capacity, culminating in a new inauguration on November 30, 1933.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

After years of flourishing and prestigious activity\u2014particularly during the war, when it compensated for the closure of Genoese theaters\u2014the Sociale suffered a slow decline until its eventual closure.<\/p>

In the 1980s, a rebirth seemed imminent thanks to new structural upgrades promoted by the Province of Genoa; however, their interruption led to a nearly twenty-year closure due to safety concerns.
This stalemate ended in 2002 with the establishment of the Fondazione Teatro Sociale. Promoted by the box owners\u2014descendants of the historic proprietors\u2014the foundation brought together public entities (the Province of Genoa and the Municipalities of Camogli and Recco) and private partners (the \u201c100 Families\u201d Association) with the goal of fully restoring the Sociale\u2019s structure and resuming its activities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
